3. Defending Jacob

The book was very thrilling and when I read that Jacob was accused for murdering the girl he met on vacation in Jamaica, I knew that something was up. Jacob must of been responsible for the murders going on since he was capable of it. Laurie killed Jacob and I predicted that she would eventually blow up from all her feelings being stuck inside her. Also how Andy has to think if he wants to lose his wife as well as his son for his own safety. I was very surprised at the end of the book, and was not expecting it to end like that

The book was very interesting, and I enjoyed reading it because it was insane when things turned towards the end. Especially when Laurie kept all her feelings inside, and then finally popped. Throughout the book, Laurie doubted her son’s innocence. Then after Jamaica when Jacob killed the girl he liked, Laurie really knew her son was a murderer. So she took control and got into a car crash to kill Jacob and was successful. Then, Laurie ends up going on trial for the murder of Jacob Barber.  I agree when Andy doesn’t go against Laurie in trial because he will lose not only his son, but also his wife.

1. Defending Jacob

Towards the beginning of the novel, I thought Jacob was completely innocent. He didn’t have any reason to kill Ben Rifkin and didn’t seem to be familiar of what was really going on. However, when Derek wrote on Facebook about Jacob having the knife, I started to think about how Jacob could have been the murderer. The most important scene was when Andy found the hidden knife in Jacobs bedroom drawer, then disposed of it in the dump for Jacob’s safety. I disagree with what Andy did because he didn’t confront his work about the situation and what he found out about it, and this could also put his job at risk. Towards the end we find out that Ben used to make fun of Jacob.

I thought the book Started out really slow it wasn't really interesting untill he got to kings court then it started to pick up speed. It got really interesting as soon as he got on the boat. From there on I found the book to be very interesting and never wanted to put it down.

I liked how at the end of the book he didn't go dig up the hash again. He knew that it wasn't worth the risk. He already knew the consequences and has been through them before. If he had dug up the hash we probably wouldn't have this book to read he would of either became a dealer or went back to jail.

You can tell how bad jack really wanted the money and to start a new life in America as a writer. If he was willing to make this crazy deal with a drug dealer and go through all this trouble like almost getting shot and going to jail just to become a writer you know he was ready for it. He desevered this.

Defending Jacob 4

The end of the book was a huge surprise to me! First of all, I can't believe that Andy's father sent James O'Leary, the fixer, to make Patz commit suicide and create the note saying that he was the one who killed Ben. However, he made him kill himself for no reason since the real killer was Jacobs mom. I don't see why Jake's mom would want to kill Ben and Jake's girlfriend that he had met on vacation. Let alone, in the end, kill her own son! I can't believe that is how the book ended! It's crazy to think that Jake's mother wanted her kid to go through with getting put on trial and watching it all happen. If I was Laurie, I wouldn't have been able to watch it knowing that I was actually the murderer. Jake didn't deserve to die! He was a son who wanted the best for him and his family until his mom took his life for no reason.
