As I read on in Paper Towns, I found it interesting how the
title of the book fit in so well with the storyline. I agree with Margo, one of
the main characters, when she explains the fragile, papery state of Orlando.
They are sitting in a room high above their town, and looking down, Margo
explains how part of it isn’t as beautiful as it seems. From high up, you’re
not able to see the flaws and cracks in the atmosphere of the town, so it is
easy for someone to have the wrong interpretation and say that it looks
perfect. Up close, it becomes clear how all that glitters is not gold. All of
the blemishes and imperfections of the town becomes visible, and it’s like eyes
have betrayed the mind. It’s funny though, how people fantasize about the idea
of perfection. Nothing in the world is perfect, yet the idea still crosses the minds of many people.
