When Rik made the offer for Jack to ride the ship from the island to New York, I'm feeling a little suspicious. Rik kept telling Jack to be sure he doesn't tell anyone. Also, why couldn't Rik just take the ship down to NY. Finally, where are they going to come up with 10 thousand dollars from. While reading, I see some clues that it is a bad trip and something terrible is going to happen. The only reason why he took this offer was for the money to get into a good school. If he took the offer on University of Florida, he wouldn't be stuck on that island in the first place, and he wouldn't be leaving to go on a boat for 6 weeks.
