#2 the curious incident of the dog in the night-time

I feel that the most important part of this book was when Christopher learns that his mother is alive. When he is reading the letters, the realization comes to the reader that Christopher's mother is in fact not dead. You can almost instantly feel the betrayal that he is feeling towards his father. The way that he reacts is very understandable. Mark Haddon does a very good job of using words that help the reader to feel the same way that Christopher does. I feel that this is very wrong of his father and he made an awful decision to lie to his son about his mother, but I also see several reasons as to why he might have done so. One reason that he lied to Christopher could be that he didn't want him to be confused about why she left and also constantly be traveling back and forth between houses. Another possible reason may be that the memories were too painful for himself having to deal with learning about his own wife's affair with another man. In the end though I would disagree with his decision to lie to Christopher.
