Defending Jacob

The main character is Andy Barber. His wife is Laurie, and his son is Jacob. He is an assistant district attorney. When a boy in his son's grade is murdered everybody is scared and watches  their children closely. When Andy finds a knife in Jacob's room he asks him why he has it and then disposes of it. When the police find this out Jacob is blamed for the murder but he says he never talked to him.
