I find it ironic that in the beginning of the book when Ryan is in high school on September 11, 2001, he doesn't really care about the twin towers falling. He doesn't really think of it to be a big problem, until he decides to join the army. He went from not really caring about it to saying "The Twin Towers didn't fall in Manhattan. They fell on me."
