ryan often described the encounters he had with the children in Iraq. For example, Ryan's convoy stopped for a little while and he was able to talk to on of the children. The child explained to Ryan  that he grew watermelon and ended up asking Ryan if he would like any. This side of the war is overshadowed by all of the killing and destruction. The peope of the United States do not understand this side of war exists because they only see the killing because that is always on the news channels.
