While he was in prison it helped him become who he wanted to be. He focused on writing. Instead of a journal he had an old copy of The Brother Karamazov. He wrote everything that was on his mind and was around him in the book. He heard about other prisoners escape attempts and started to think about escaping himself. Once he is out of prison he goes to college and dedicates his life to writing.
