The Girl Who Fell From The Sky 1

The start of the book is about about many people, there are almost stories of people with the book.  Each character is divided in chapters almost and a story is told about them. For example Rachel is a girl who lives in Portland Oregon, she just moved there to live with her grandma, and her Aunt Loretta.  She starts going to school and kids pick on her for having "nice" hair, and she gets picked on in class, basically she gets picked on for being the new kid at the school.  On the last day of the school year, she participated in races, racing other classmates.  She had thought she was the fastest girl in the school, she ended up winning the race againest a girl who picks on her Tamika, and it gave her a little boost of confidence.  In the first 85 pages or so in the book there are no major events that give the book a distinct plot, for any of the characters almost like there is a independent story for each of the characters.
