Woman Warrior Post 3
I can’t imagine what it would be like growing up with my
mother telling me stories about our ancestors and not knowing if the stories
were true or not. Throughout the author’s
(Maxine Wong Kingston’s) memoirs, Maxine interjected stories that her mother
told. Most of the stories were to frighten
Maxine into making the “right” decision and not do something that would insult their
family. I know the stories were added to
try and make the reader understand more about the Chinese culture, but some of
them were added at inappropriate times and made the book “choppy” and,
sometimes, confusing. I think it would have been better if she explained
what caused her to write about these particular stories and why they were
important to her.
