It doesn't make sense that Christopher is in a special school full of kids that are mentally retarded because he's very smart, he just has some issues like not being able to get touched or not having his food touch another food, but everyone has personal issues of there own that could be worked out. We know that Christopher is very smart because he does these complicated math problems whenever he's frightened or confused so he's not so frightened or confused anymore.
