I agree with Nick Sasso when he says that he was shocked when the characters hated their lives so much that they wanted to commit suicide. Martin wanted to leap because he was a famous celebrity until a scandal with a 15 year old and his co-host on his television show messes up his marriage and life. Maureen is on the roof because she is a single mother with a disabled child, little money, and little free time, and she just wants to end all the problems at once. Jess is on the roof because she has no friends and her sister Jen left the family months ago, and she is still upset about it. Finally JJ is upset because his girlfriend broke up with him, and his band broke up, and he is sad and upset. These are all problems that can be settled, and committing suicide is the selfish and wrong way out of the situation.
