I found it strange when Jack's father tells him that Rik is a "dope smuggler." Rik had came into Mr. Gantos' shop earlier and ordered a box with a false bottom. Mr. Gantos can tell he's a criminal just by looking at him. Jack doesn't completely believe him until Rik comes back into the shop for screws to attach the false bottom to the box, and Jack sees him put hashish into the box. It's strange that Jack's father can pick out criminals just by looking at them.
