I was surprised and confused when J.J. lied about his reason
for wanting to commit suicide, claiming that he had a terminal illness. In some
ways it made it seem as if he didn’t really want to die, especially because it
would seem that the other characters no longer care about the opinions of
others, being more focused on themselves. For example, Martin didn’t really
care about leaving the people he was having dinner with when he went to go
commit suicide. However, it could have been an example of how invisible J.J. feels, that he has to stand out at least one last time.
