A Long Way Down 2

When Martin broke down at Jess' make-shift intervention, it showed he wasn't ready to open up about his past experiences with the people around him quite yet. The reason he acted out was because he felt vulnerable and weak being under a sort of magnifying glass, so making fun of someone who seemed to be below him seemed justifiable to him at the time. Martin must have felt threatened that there was someone who was selfless and caring there, who didn't have to be, so he chose to attempt to persuade everyone it was a pathetic and easy thing to do. This showed Martin was still recovering and changing, but he had still come a long way from how he was last New Year's Eve when he had thought he hit rock bottom. I predict that shortly after this episode, once he apologizes, Martin will be better and have peace at mind. This is because his emotions will be in check, he will have a clear conscience, and he will have resolved all of his internal and external conflicts.
