A Long Way Down Post 1

It took a while for me to become interested in this book because the author, Nick Hornby, slowly revealed things about each character's personality and lives. This made the beginning confusing. However, I really enjoyed learning about each character's struggles. I found it interesting that Hornby decided to make them each very different from each other. I believe that the author's intention in doing this was to make them more relateable. Even though the reader may not be able to connect with the characters' specific situations, the individual may still be able to connect to the emotions that they are experiencing. Also, even though you might not think they have anything in common, they do. They all at some point shared the same desperation to want to end their suffering and felt in some way that they weren't wanted or needed by anyone. This connects them more than any amount of time or friendship could.
