Hole in my Life 1
While reading Hole in my Life, I found it shared similar aspects and occurrences with the memoir Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, despite the fact one book was based on a mistake, and the other a heroic survival story. Both books talked about how difficult it was to be in prison, and how there was no right or wrong way to act- no matter what you did, someone would be angry at you for it. In Hole in my Life, Jack immediately changed for the better in prison, because he knew he was not the type of person who could last there, and already wanted to do everything he could to never have to go back. Although prison was terrifying and brutal, it helped Jack Gantos to realize his mistakes and learn from them.
