The curious incident of the dog at night time 1

This story starts out in 1998. The person telling the story is Chris, who finds a dog named Wellington, and feels like he has to figure out what happened. H egoes around questioning people, but seems to get himself in trouble. He is held back by slight autism, and after he hits a cop, and the police warn his to discontinue the mission, as does his father. However, Chris is stubborn and doesn't give up. His dad keeps trying to get him to budge and stop the investigation, which seems to me a little suspicous, just like how the police told him to stop his pursuit of the murderer. Chris's mother is suposedly dead
