The Curious incident of the dog in the night-time 1

In "chapter" 43, I find it very suspicious that Christopher's dad isn't telling him much about the mom's incident. It's also weird that he never took him to go see her in the hospital or bring her nice food to eat. I think there is something going on because when my mom was in the hospital for multiple injuries, my father made every effort to take us to go see her even though she needed rest. Also, if his mom was really in the hospital with a serious heart injury, his father wouldn't be home, he would be right beside her at the hospital.
