I believe that it was a good thing that Martin showed the article about the 90 days of suicide. The group wanted to commit suicide right away but it showed them that they should wait and see how life turns out rather and have a new perspective on where their life is going. It made them have meetings and all together made them overcome jumping off the rooftop. Seeing the man jump off the building was also a good thing that they witnessed in the book because all together it brought them closer together. They realized that everyone has problems but you can overcome them and  there not worth taking your life for. It showed them that jumping off the building is not what they really wanted to do
