Hole in my Life 3

I never thought about what benefit jail offered to prisoners, in the long run, besides a lesson learned. After reading Hole in my Life, I can understand how prison is an experience that can inspire people. People who were in prison, including Jack Gantos, have used what they experienced for their writing, music, and art. You would think people would want to forget all about what had happened to them in prison the second they get out, but expressing it and getting it all out of your head helps to heal quicker. Jack had said towards the end of the memoir that reflecting on his time in prison gave him so much material to work with, and once that started, writing in general got easier for him.
