Defending Jacob- Post 3

I am nearly finished with chapter 35, and the events that occur within the chapter sadden me. It is starting to appear that the Barber family has given up, and are certain that 14 year old Jacob will have to spend decades of his life in prison. What crushes me the most about this chapter is that Jacob is in complete denial, believing that everything will turn out all right regardless of the verdict. He has devised a farfetched plan to flee the country and move to Argentina, and he is the only one that refuses to realise that it won't work. It appears that this plan is the only keeping Jacob from breaking under the pressure.
